On September 3, 2025, the New York City Planning Commission voted 11–1 to approve the OneLIC Neighborhood Plan, a major Long Island City rezoning that will shape the neighborhood’s future for decades.

Covering 54 blocks, the plan paves the way for 14,700 new housing units—including 4,300 permanently affordable apartments—and over 3.5 million sq. ft. of commercial and industrial space, expected to create 14,400 new jobs. It also features nine acres of new parks, upgraded streetscapes, and a continuous waterfront walkway from Gantry Plaza State Park to Queensbridge Park, boosting LIC real estate values and improving public amenities.
The proposal now moves to the New York City Council, which has 50 days to review and vote.
Council Member Julie Won has indicated she will push for stronger commitments on affordable housing, infrastructure, and open space before giving her support.
Why it matters for local businesses: If approved by the City Council, the OneLIC rezoning could drive a wave of residential and commercial growth, attracting new customers, increasing foot traffic, and creating a more vibrant Queens business community.
